How do tiny homes hold up over time?
With so many standards of building, it can be difficult to determine exactly how well a tiny home might stand the test of time. This can be a significant detail because while the upfront cost of the home might be less, the overall maintenance required may be substantially more.
Most people instead opt to split the difference, opting to use higher quality materials even if it means a smaller home. Some of the more common standards home are built too include Housing Urban Development (HUD) and International Residential Code (IRC).
While both codes define the standards to which the home must be constructed, there are many differences between the two.
Housing Urban Development Homes
Typically defined as a manufactured home, HUD is the only code to be recognized nationally in the United States and usually supersedes state and local code (at least in regards to manufactured housing). While these homes may be engineered to improve affordability, the construction requirements are much less than IRC-based homes.
